Free blog

The 2010 Olympic Games started last Friday and the USA is staged for another top medal count. Today starts one of the more interesting events, Skeleton. It is like Luge only they slide on their stomachs instead of on their back. Instead of going four times down the slope, these athletes only go twice to medal but it is way more extreme because they are at a higher risk of falling off. After the crash of Georgian man, Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Skeleton athletes were going to drop out because they go the fastest of all the Luge sports and also the least safe.
Today both men and women will go and both will give out medals. The US has five competitors, two women and three men. The US men’s aren’t favored to win but Noelle Pikus-Pace is favored to medal but is not a shoe in. While skeleton is relatively new, many athletes are willing to conquer the Whistler Center in Canada this is one of the greatest sports in the Olympics.
Another great sport is Ice Hockey. This is the Olympics summed up with hundreds of the greatest players worldwide. With some home town heroes like Pavel Datsyuk of Russia or Brian Rafalski of the USA both from the Red Wings and both playing for gold. Some of the other players on the other team I will never see again but they are still cool to watch hockey, though I don’t like everyone on the US team it’s still cool.
Moguls are another interesting sport it involves a series of small hills that the skier has to go over without separating the knees, then they go off a jump do a trick. Then more mogules and then a jump to end the challenge. Finally they are graded on how they do. Its interesting and fun to watch. The contestants are based on speed, how they keep there knees and the trick on the jump.
Overall the oynpics are the best time to see all the athlets.

True Story

It was the best of times and the worst of times commonly known as the start of ninth grade. Just falling asleep on the night before was a tremendous job, and the idea of going to school wasn’t good. Like every middle school year this year was looking to be longer and like a rollercoaster ride with the ups and the downs. And this wasn’t a high. It was a all time low. The first day was like when you miss the bus that feeling you get. The second I woke up I thought I got hit by a truck but that was soon to go away and be replaced with the butterflies and feeling of not knowing anyone. As my slow and tedious morning went by, got ready for school and left out the front door into the great beyond. I met my friends and the adventure started, just leaving the neighborhood could I see the locale marauding dog, lucky for us he was sleeping so we just crept by. As we were crossing the Six Mile Bridge the alligator snapped at me and it got my jeans so I got pulled in then my friend Jason jumped in and the alligator let go of me and together we scare it off. Once back on the bridge I made sure I had no injury so then we continued on our way. Once we were past the bridge we came upon the Six Mile Side Street and bear came running after us! So all three of us took off back across the bridge and into the ravine, lucky for us the Bear didn’t know about the ravine so we managed to hide until it gave up looking for us. We continued our trek to school, just as we came upon the bridge a car went speeding by followed by a few police cars. All three of us jumped back and kept on walking then there was the sound of screeching tires at the light. We took off running through the rest of the bridge and onto the hill to see the police chase had taken a turn for the worse right near the light. Lucky for us people were gawking and we slipped across the street. As we walked past one of the cop cars there was a guy in the backseat who looked like he had served time already. Just as we got onto school property I knew our adventure was over and a new one started, the first day of high school.

China rejects US claims at currency too low

Thesis: China should fight back after the arms deal.

After the United States arms deal to Taiwan the Chinese need to fight back to remain a world power. This rejection from the Chinese to the US doesn’t come left field because the Chinese need to remain a world power and the only way is to keep under valuing their currency. This is like the New York Mets getting a really good player and their cross town rival the Yankees suddenly making a huge deal. My point is any rival makes a move against you then you are going to push back. This rejection was in the best interest for the Chinese because they can say (subconsciously), the US pushed back so we can give it right back. Another thing is they say the US isn’t doing enough to get out of their slump.
China claims we (the US) aren’t doing enough to deal with our descending economy. Edward Wong of The New York Times says “…the Chinese economists were concerned that the American government, suffering from a record budget deficit, could print more dollars and issue more bonds, eroding the value of the dollar.” One thing to know is the Chinese own most of the bonds and could use that as a diplomatic solution and another thing is lowering the value of our dollar would make their goods pricey. All in all the Chinese have all rights to push back after the arms deal.

What I’m Thankful for is………

My parents because they have put up with me for almost fifteen years and have supported me. Also, although I fight with my sister both parents still love me.

My house because I have lived here since kindergarten and look forward to coming home each day. With the thought of food in mind I unlock my door and have a quick snake in my home.

My dogs because they are the best dogs ever, they both can sit, lay down, and stay on command. Also one of them sleeps on my bed at night. They both can keep me company especially when I’m home alone.

Electricity because it powers everything that I need for a daily life like TV, lights, and my IPod, also it has become something that everyone needs. When the great power outage hit I felt like I was back in Stone Age.

Chocolate because it is an easy de-stresser and it tastes great and is easy to eat lots of it. I only like milk chocolate because dark has too much chocolate in it and white chocolate doesn’t even count as chocolate.

Music because it can calm one down or make one very hyper. Like my all time favorite band The Beatles, I tend to listen to them before I fall asleep and even sometimes The Who, early Who that is, it just depends on my mood.

Food on the table every night, because many of the less fortunate don’t have a meal on the table every night like I do, also I enjoy being able to pick my food every night. Moreover I enjoy the freedom of sitting down to eat whenever I want to.

TV because I can watch it at my leisure and put on pretty much whatever I want thanks to DVR, other people don’t have DVR so they aren’t in the future. Also with a verity of shows to watch I can never be bored with the power of TV.

My two cats because they don’t require constant attention like dogs do, but considering one cat is a lap cat and one doesn’t even like to be picked up or even come down stairs. Cats are more independent so I don’t need to give them as much attention.

Believe it or not school, it’s not the learning part but the ability to see my friends almost all day and can talk. Now the learning part is somewhat alright sometimes a teacher will talk about a topic I like but most times I enjoy school solely to see my friends.

First Month of High School

Old Friends New Friends
Have made some new friends but I have kept the old because I have many friends and friends are essential to life as we know it. Any lost friends can shatter the brink of reality and leave you helpless.

SHS Activities Attended
I tend to only go to soccer games and the occasional football games. Also I plan to the Global Float to provide a win. Also I plan to go to all the varsity football and soccer playoff games.

SHS Activities Attended
I tend to only go to soccer games and the occasional football games. Also I plan to the Global Float to provide a win. Also I plan to go to all the varsity playoff games.
Funniest, Weirdest, Scariest Moments
When I got locked out the school and also wondering the halls after school is really weird, they are still full of life and people working there hardest to finish there after school ideas, and floats. Also when I got locked out on the first day of school and waited out there for at least 20 minutes.

Hardiest, Easiest Class and Assignments
The hardest assignment was the first cultural event because it was so unexpected and I really didn’t know how to do it and the event was a while away. But overall I got a good grade on it.

Top Five Current Events
Scientists discovered Ardi in Africa, Iran is claiming that they aren’t making missiles but everyone thinks they are, Livonia Public Schools are losing 4.9 million because the Granholm thinks it will be better for the budget, Barack Obama won the noble peace prize, and the runoff election in Afganistan.
Faces in the News
Ardi the major link in human to ape evolution, Hamid Karzia, and Abdullah Abdullah in the runoff election are some major faces in the news. Also Obama won the noble peace prize for his work in peace in the Middle East.

Interesting New Words
Loquacious from Walkabout and prehensile is one I got wrong last quiz. Also you could say I’m very lethargic in the morning. Plus Walkabout has provided a verity of new words to our vocabulary.
Popular or Memorable Songs
“Yellow submarine” by the Beatles is very memorable because I listen to it almost every day. Also “Don’t stop believin’” by Journey has been becoming more and more popular lately. Also “London Calling” by the Clash has been a favorite lately.

Popular or Memorable Movies
The last Harry Potter came out also there is lots of buzz about “Zombieland”. Where the wild things are I don’t want to see because it might ruin the original story.

Rumors and Gossip
Most of the Gossip is just “who’s going out with who” and “he didn’t just break up with her”. I really stay out of gossip, gossip isn’t a fun thing to get into.

Fads and Trends
I think flannel is in but I’m not going out just to buy a whole new wardrobe just to fit in and look “cool”. I tend to just wear a hoody and a t-shirt, and shorts or jeans.
First Cultural Event
Once I turned in my cultural event I was a breath of fresh air because it really shocked me on how hard it was. I went to Fort Meigs in Ohio, it was really fun because after my family went out to eat then to a Mudhens game.

Homecoming
I went and it was really fun because I hung out with a few friends and also the music choice was awesome. I saw many people I knew but they had dates, maybe next year I will go with a girl. Also the football game was great with a blow out of forty two to ten.

Advice for a Freshman
Just keep on top of things don’t joke around. Bring a ipod on the bus and try to have a cell phone to help you. Also make lots of friends and don’t make your teachers hate you. Also try to be on time the worst is getting a tardy and having to serve a detention.

What I’m Looking Forward to…
To just making it through the year and to just keep up my grades. Also I plan to get to know much more people. Also I need to study harder and not freeze up on a test.

Other noteworthy Achievements or Events Moments
I got locked out of the school and also I haven’t got a detention yet. I also went to the homecoming and the dance that was good. I spent much more time with my friends on weekends than last year, also card nights on Friday are really fun.

Culture

American culture is a blend of everything in the world with some spice of our own. Many people play football and baseball, these are considered American sports. Food is another thing people like hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, and Soda. TV shows tend to have fat, uncaring Dads and Moms that do everything but get along with the Dad plus at the end of the show no one important dies. Many Americans like a certain college and the adult raises the kid to like that certain college. Most Americans that like a certain college have rivalries but still have people parties and when their team loses then they get mad and yell at the TV. To sum up Americans have a sense of entitlement for colleges and love the comedy that is the Simpsons and Family Guy, food, and sports are a major blend of our culture.
My culture is mostly American with some German and British. Considering my name is British and my Dads been to Britain and has heard my name many times and it took getting used to, I tend to drink tea on occasion and much of British cuisine is like Americas but the emphasize on Breakfast more. I eat fast food at least once every two weeks. Also I really enjoy the home cooked meals and the occasional stir fry and ribs on the grill. My German heritage is usually shown on my Dads side considering I play soccer and my great grandma makes German food like potato salad and glace (dumplings). Also I am very picky when it comes to new foods also I have trouble eating other cultures food. Whenever I eat something new I always either like it or hate it. Much of my family is picky especially my dad, I think that’s where I get it from.
